Functional responsibilities
Learning objectives:
The internship will provide the intern with an opportunity to gain practical experience in stakeholders engagement and communication within an international and multicultural environment.
During the internship, the intern will:
• Gain an understanding of institutional communication and outreach activities within the United Nations system.
• Develop practical skills in project management, content preparation and online engagement.
• Support initiatives aimed at strengthening the visibility of ITCILO and the UN Turin Campus.
• Contribute to the preparation of strategic communication products targeting stakeholders, and partners.
• Become familiar with the planning and implementation of communication and public awareness initiatives, including those related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
• Gain exposure to the work environment of an international organization and learn how communication strategies support institutional objectives.
Through these activities, the intern will gain hands-on experience in communication practices and institutional outreach.
Internship Terms of Reference:
The Strategic Engagement and Communication Intern will support the Office of the Director in implementing stakeholder engagement, communication and outreach activities.
Under the supervision of the team, the intern will assist with the following tasks:
- Support the development and delivery of strategic engagement activities and products, including newsletters, reports and online content.
- Assist in project management activities, including data analysis, content preparation and team coordination efforts.
- Assist in preparing and updating content for websites and social media channels.
- Conduct background research and information gathering to support communication and advocacy initiatives.
- Support the promotion of public events and initiatives related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Assist the team with general communication and administrative tasks when required.
This internship will provide hands-on experience in communication activities and offer exposure to institutional communication practices within an international organization.
Qualifications required
Education• University Degree: Still enrolled in a graduate or post-graduate course or recently graduated (maximum 6 months earlier)
• Subject: Communication Studies; Marketing; International Relations; Political Science; Media and Journalism; Public Relations; International Development; Social Sciences
• Knowledge or coursework in institutional communication, digital communication, advocacy, international cooperation or sustainable development is considered an advantage.
Fluent in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Italian is considered an advantage.
IT Skills• Excellent command of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Ability to conduct internet research and information gathering.
• Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) for website updates is an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of social media platforms and digital communication tools.
• Experience with basic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud is considered an asset.
Specific assignments might require different levels of technical proficiency. However, these basic skills should be met:
- Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
- Previous experience in project management, desirable.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
- Strong organizational and research skills.
- Sensitivity to multicultural and diversity issues.
- Tact, discretion and confidentiality
