The vision of the International Training Centre is to be the global centre of excellence for ILO constituents to source capacity development services on social justice for
decent work. The mission of the Centre is to provide people across the world of work directly and via ILO constituents with access to digitally enhanced capacity
development services to successfully manage their Future Work transitions. The Social Protection, Governance and Tripartism Programme is located within Training and its scope is to provide both individual and institutional capacity development services, blending face-to-face and online training, and complementing it with advisory services.


Functional responsibilities

Learning objectives: 

The internship provides a unique opportunity for a motivated individual to gain practical experience and contribute to the work of the Social Protection, Governance, and Tripartism Programme. It provides exposure to key topics in occupational safety and health, labour inspection and labour administration, as well as the latest technical discussions and practical challenges faced by practitioners globally. This internship offers the chance to learn about the development and delivery of training programmes, including the design of innovative digital learning materials and the facilitation of online courses. The intern will undertake research and analysis of policies and practices in occupational safety and health, labour inspection and labour administration, contributing to the preparation of technical reference materials, case studies, training resources, digital tools and interactive modules. The intern will also learn to assist in integrating capacity-building activities with advisory services, analysing and addressing the diverse learning needs of participants in different contexts.

Through interaction with participants-mainly occupational safety and health practitioners, labour inspectors and officials of labour administrations from low-and middle-income countries-and expert resource persons, the intern will gain exposure to practical realities on the ground and the application of the ILO policies and standards.

By the end of the internship, the intern will: 

  • Gain practical experience in designing and facilitating training programmes in OSH, labour inspection and labour administration.
  • Develop skills in research, analysis and the preparation of technical materials.
  • Learn to address diverse learning needs and tailor capacity-building initiatives to specific contexts.
  • Gain exposure to the application of international labour standards and their role in promoting social justice and decent work.
  • Develop skills in teamwork, organization and priority setting within a cross-cultural, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Acquire knowledge of the ILO's tripartite structure and its global operations 

The experience will help the intern develop skills in teamwork, organization, and priority setting, while working in a dynamic, cross-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment. By the end of the internship, the intern will have gained practical knowledge of capacity development processes, an in-depth understanding of the ILO's tripartite structure and global operations, and familiarity with institutional and individual development strategies, having the opportunity to participate in workshops and courses offered by SPGT Programme. 

Internship Terms of Reference: 

Under the general supervision of the Programme Manager and in close collaboration with the SPGT Programme team, the intern will contribute to the continuous development, implementation, and refinement of training activities related to occupational safety and health (OSH), labour inspection and labour administration. 
Specifically, the intern will: 

1.    Assist in the design, development and management of e-learning platforms, ensuring accessibility and alignment with training objectives.
2.    Contribute to the preparation and adaptation of digital training materials,including pre-course modules, assessment tools, interactive exercises and training materials, tailored to the economic, social and cultural contexts of different regions.
3.    Support the facilitation of on line and hybrid training activities, including the design and management of group work and interactive exercises, and provide logistical support during face-to-face sessions.
4.    Participate in the planning, promotion, coordination and evaluation of training activities to ensure they meet the specific needs of participants.
5.    Conduct research and analysis to support the conceptualization of new course offerings, addressing emerging trends and needs in OSH, labour inspection
and labour administration.
6.    Contribute to enhancing the international visibility of training activities by preparing promotional materials, articles and press releases.
7.    Assist in integrating capacity-building activities with advisory services by assessing diverse learning needs and tailoring training approaches accordingly.
8.    Support the organization and delivery of workshops, meetings and other events, as well as the monitoring and evaluation of training to ensure continuous improvement.


Qualifications required

Education

The intern must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree programme in a relevant field such as public administration, occupational safety and health, labour law, international development or social sciences. 
Demonstrated interest in OSH, labour inspection and labour administration is desirable. 

Languages

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of other languages of ITCILO (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian or Italian) is an asset.

IT Skills

Knowledge of e-learning platforms and tools such as Moodie and Articulate Rise would be an advantage
